1. What does it mean to register a domain name?

A domain name is an address the public will use to locate your web site and to find information about your products and services on the internet. Anyone thinking about establishing a web presence needs to register a domain name first.
All domain names make part of one central global registry on the internet. Like TJ-Hosting there are many companies who provide domain name registration services. If the name you searched is available you can register it as a domain name and no one else can register that exact same name! "Registering" a name means you own that domain name for the term of the registration.
2. Is it possible for someone else to register my domain name after I registered it?

It is not possible for someone else to register the exact same domain name you have registered at TJ-Hosting because the availability of domain names is verified through a central global registry. The central registry prevents a domain name that is successfully registered from being registered by another person or entity.
3. I’ve registered my domain name, what’s next?

There are many ways to use your domain name. The most common use of a domain name is for a web site may it be personal or for business. You can also hold on to your domain name for future use or at anytime decide to sell your domain name.
To use your domain name for your web site you will need to point your domain name to the servers your web site will be hosted on. This is done by requesting the DNS from the ISP you will being hosting your web site with and changing the DNS settings. It takes approximately 24-48 hours for DNS settings to be updated when you provide the DNS settings for the first time.
You can setup personalized e-mail accounts by logging into the Control Panel in Hosting Manager. TJ-Hosting can provide you with multiple e-mail accounts personalized to match your domain. For your business personalzed e-mail creates awareness and credibility, example yourname@yourcompanyname.com.

A domain name is not a web site, It's an address someone uses to find a web site. If you have a web site you need to change the DNS settings for your domain name so it can point to the server where your web site is being hosted. Within 24-48 hours after you provide the DNS settings, your web site will be accessible to anyone in the world to see, including you by typing your domain name into a browser.

The switch from your current registrar to TJ-Hosting can take a standard of up to 7 business days. Once you submit the domain name you are transferring, TJ-Hosting will send an e-mail message to the Administrative Contact listed to request authorization for the registrar transfer. The Administrative Contact then has to authorize the transfer by responding to the e-mail message within 3 days. Once the Administrative Contact authorizes the registrar transfer it can take up to 7 business days to process the request. If the Administrative Contact does not authorize the registrar transfer request or doesn’t respond to the e-mail within 3 days, your transfer request is then cancelled.

Yes, you can submit multiple domain names for transfer at the same time.

4. How do I find out about the status of my transfer?

We will contact you if your transfer has been cancelled because the Administrative Contact did not authorize the transfer e-mail, if transfer is denied by your current registrar, or once the transfer has been successfully completed. If TJ-Hosting has not notified you within 7 business days from the day you submitted your domain name transfer, contact us.
5. Why did my current registrar deny the domain name transfer?

There are several reasons why your current registrar has denied the domain name transfer and here are the most common reasons:
The domain name was registered with your current registrar less than 60 days ago. The rule is you can only transfer a domain name that has been registered for more than 60 days.
The domain name has already expired. If the domain name has already expired we suggest you renew it immediately with your current registrar.
The domain name may be expiring in less than 30 days. Some registrars have a rule that they will not authorize transfers within 30 days of expiry which means you need to renew your domain with your current registrar. We suggest you transfer your domain names at least 30 days from expiration.
*Note: If your transfer has been denied by your current registrar and you have to renew it with your current registrar you can still switch to TJ-Hosting after. You need to re-submit your domain name transfer and once the transfer is processed the time you have left with your current registrar will carry over, meaning TJ-Hosting will add one additional year to the balance of your current registration term.
